Soul Soup Fundraiser at Smiley’s June 3rd

In May, our beloved Amber Hines celebrates 15 years of building community through music in
our Bolinas town.
After nearly a decade of bringing her work to people of all ages in the East Bay, a 5-month
pregnant Amber moved here with Michael Pinkham in 2008. She began teaching at the Bolinas
Children’s Center and has been grooving since. Her program Soul Soup, is a family style music
ritual that blends traditional and contemporary music with live drum accompaniment to uplift,
nourish, support social emotional literacy, and build community.
Amber has worked with preschoolers, middle schoolers, nursing mothers, young families and
Elders. Many young adults in this town have grown up through her programming and have
been supported in their creativity through this medium. Amber is a friend and ally to many.
Amber currently leads a weekly Soul Soup on Friday mornings at the downtown park for
children 0-3 and their friends, a program generated by Susan Tacherra to fill the need for
community for young families born into the isolation of COVID. She wanted these families to
have a place to come together and connect.
With the help of West Marin Fund, Randi and Kate of the Bolinas Community Center and
recent private donors, this program has been going for nearly 1.5 years and is now a thriving
community. Over that span of time, many people of all ages would come and sing. Sometimes
up to 30 would gather.
We are having a Soul Soup Brunch @ Smiley’s
as a fundraiser on June 3rd to generate the funds to keep this program going. We hope you
will come down and join us for an interactive Soul Soup set w/ Amber at 10 am and then enjoy
breakfast with all the fixings at 11 am.
Festive alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Come groove with us!!
Whether you have a child that worked with Amber as a young one early on or you benefit
from the current Soul Soup community, please consider joining us in celebrating the mattering
of music in our lives.
If you are not able to make it, you also have the option of donating to Soul Soup via the Bolinas
Community Center, by check with Soul Soup in the memo line, cash, credit card or via PayPal on
the BCC website.
