It is with great excitement we invite you to join us at the Community Center in Bolinas California for an evening of potent music to Celebrate Mariee Sioux’s album release and start calling in summer. This is open to the public and kid friendly! 🎶🦋
As people arrive we are inviting attendees (and performers) to take part a simple community alter building, bringing a flower/flowers and or small item (that you can take home with you after) that represents your ancestors or anything your are going through at this time be is lovely or difficult. Much of this evening will be about honoring our present moment in life, our ancestors and remembrance of who and where we come from.
To start this evening off we will have Southern California duo Parting Lines opening ✌🏾. This new project comprised of Tim Ramsey and Trevor Beld Jimenez is full of beautiful melodic twists n turns to get lost in and groove to! They are longtime members of the bygone Los Angeles folk-rock outfit, Tall Tales and the Silver Lining, and sidemen to bands Vetiver, Little Wings, and DIOS. Their debut LP, See You On The Other Side, was released on August 31, 2018 on Night Bloom Records and has upbeat and moving melodies that sometimes gives nods to Petty and Springsteen 🎶🎶.
Closing out the evening Mariee SiouxSioux will be performing her new record Grief in Exile in it’s entirety from start to finish with her backing ensemble, father Gary Sobonya on mandolin and fellow songwriters/producers, Kacey Johansing and Tim Ramsey who helped record the album, much of it actually in Bolinas spring of 2018. This will be a very special event to release this body of work in a place that has great significance to them all ♥. A few songs from the album even were written in Bolinas where Mariee spent much of her time over the past decade.
We would love for you to join us in the magic of this evening!
Thank you so much to all who that came out to support the Community Center! It was a beautiful day filled with community, dancing and BBQ.

How to Improve Your Overall Well-Being in 2018
Photo via Pixabay
With the end of another year comes reflection, and for many, there’s always the question of whether we’re living our best lives or not. That means different things for different people, but in general, it comes down to your overall well-being. Are you stressed often, or do you suffer from anxiety? Do you find yourself exhausted much of the time and unable to find joy in the small things because you’re so tired?
It’s easy to fall into habits that leave you feeling this way, especially if you have work, school, a family, and other responsibilities to worry about. Some of those habits are otherwise harmless, such as keeping a full schedule, but when combined with other stressors, they can leave you feeling overwhelmed and unable to perform to the best of your ability. It’s time to think about the best ways you can eliminate bad habits and figure out how to successfully stay on track with your goals for the new year, as well as how to sustain them. Read on to find out how.

HopeDance FiLMs presents “CRAZYWISE”
Suggested Donation: $10/ No one will be refused…
A feature documentary challenging the current mental health system in crisis. A 20-year fascination with shamanism leads photographer and filmmaker Phil Borges to question how Western cultures define and treat severe mental disorders.
Crazy…or wise? The traditional wisdom of indigenous cultures often contradicts modern views about a mental health crisis. Is it a ‘calling’ to grow or just a ‘broken brain’? The documentary CRAZYWISE explores what can be learned from people around the world who have turned their psychological crisis into a positive transformative experience.
Conversations have always included mental health practitioners, ex-mental patients, therapists of all kinds

Mirta Guzman will have our BIG altar back
Serving Pozole, Soup and Hot Chocolate
You are invited to the celebration of a traditional Latin American holiday that combines pre-Colombian festivals and indigenous traditions with European rituals for honoring the dead. It is celebrated every year at this same time as Halloween and the Christian holy days of All Saints Day and All Souls Day.
In homes, families arrange “ofrendas” or altars. Tables are covered with fruit, flowers, vegetables, bread, candy, candles, incense, photos of the deceased, papel picado (paper cut-outs) represent the sky. Marigold petals are sprinkled to create a path for the spirits to follow on their return.
Please feel free to bring photos of those who have passed over, along with mementos and flowers.
The hall will be open for the honoring of “Dia de los Angelitos” (remembering children who have died) on Wednesday, Nov 1 from Noon-10pm. The BCC will have Pozole and Mexican chocolate available for purchase in the kitchen.
On Thursday Nov. 2, Dia de los Muertos”, the BCC will be open from 2pm to 8pm. This day is not a sad time, but one rather of remembering and rejoicing. Musicians are welcome.
Please join us for any or all of the celebration you can. To volunteer: watch over the altar or bake some sweets for the BCC to sell which will help cover the cost of the altar, please call 868-2128 or email email@example.com.
In an effort to minimize waste, Bolinas Community Center is excited to have just launched a new reusable cup program for events, with a new stock of reusable cups to be kept on sight.
The Borg family has donated 480 durable, BPA-free, food-grade Steelys cups for use (and reuse) at the Community Center, in both 16 oz and 12 oz cup sizes. Each cup has the BCC logo laser engraved on it, as well as the zero waste message “REDUCE, REUSE, RETURN.”
The intention of the program is to cut waste by offering reusable Steelys cups that can be cleaned and reused endlessly for beverage service at all of our events.
We have launched the program on the honor system, where drinks are served in the steel cups, which can refilled for the guest throughout the event. We ask guests to return their steel cups to BCC at the end of the event, so they can be cleaned and reused at the next event.
We are now getting some Steelys cups for sale as well with the BCC logo in black, which we anticipate will be available for sale starting in mid-December for the Winter Faire. Cups will be sold at $10 a piece.
A BIG THANK YOU TO JOHN BORG AND FAMILY FOR THE DONATION!!
