Mirta Guzman will have our BIG altar back
Serving Pozole, Soup and Hot Chocolate
You are invited to the celebration of a traditional Latin American holiday that combines pre-Colombian festivals and indigenous traditions with European rituals for honoring the dead. It is celebrated every year at this same time as Halloween and the Christian holy days of All Saints Day and All Souls Day.
In homes, families arrange “ofrendas” or altars. Tables are covered with fruit, flowers, vegetables, bread, candy, candles, incense, photos of the deceased, papel picado (paper cut-outs) represent the sky. Marigold petals are sprinkled to create a path for the spirits to follow on their return.
Please feel free to bring photos of those who have passed over, along with mementos and flowers.
The hall will be open for the honoring of “Dia de los Angelitos” (remembering children who have died) on Wednesday, Nov 1 from Noon-10pm. The BCC will have Pozole and Mexican chocolate available for purchase in the kitchen.
On Thursday Nov. 2, Dia de los Muertos”, the BCC will be open from 2pm to 8pm. This day is not a sad time, but one rather of remembering and rejoicing. Musicians are welcome.
Please join us for any or all of the celebration you can. To volunteer: watch over the altar or bake some sweets for the BCC to sell which will help cover the cost of the altar, please call 868-2128 or email email@example.com.
In an effort to minimize waste, Bolinas Community Center is excited to have just launched a new reusable cup program for events, with a new stock of reusable cups to be kept on sight.
The Borg family has donated 480 durable, BPA-free, food-grade Steelys cups for use (and reuse) at the Community Center, in both 16 oz and 12 oz cup sizes. Each cup has the BCC logo laser engraved on it, as well as the zero waste message “REDUCE, REUSE, RETURN.”
The intention of the program is to cut waste by offering reusable Steelys cups that can be cleaned and reused endlessly for beverage service at all of our events.
We have launched the program on the honor system, where drinks are served in the steel cups, which can refilled for the guest throughout the event. We ask guests to return their steel cups to BCC at the end of the event, so they can be cleaned and reused at the next event.
We are now getting some Steelys cups for sale as well with the BCC logo in black, which we anticipate will be available for sale starting in mid-December for the Winter Faire. Cups will be sold at $10 a piece.
A BIG THANK YOU TO JOHN BORG AND FAMILY FOR THE DONATION!!

Immigrant Action Committee is hosting a movie “Why We Come” , on why undocumented immigrants come here from Mexico and Guatemala. The movie will be in both English and Spanish. 45 minutes.
There will be a panel discussion and a Q&A possibility.
These powerful, often heartbreaking, yet always stirring and inspiring stories offer an intimate look at lives lived at the outer limits of poverty and at the extraordinary courage of ordinary people as they take great risks seeking a better life for their families, especially for their children.
You may leave donations for folks needing help with immigration here in Bolinas.

Bolinas Community Center / 14 Wharf Road, Bolinas
As we look to the future, how can our past inform the ways in which we adapt to the environmental challenges we face? Throughout the United States and beyond, oyster reefs are being tested as an approach to mitigate the effects of climate change and to restore critical habitat to our waterways. These pilot projects also offer insight into our ecological history. New York harbor was once teaming with oysters and shell mounds were a fixture of San Francisco Bay’s 19th century shoreline. This panel will examine the important role oysters play in the ecology of our bays and the promise they offer for creating resiliency.
Moderated by Alison Sant of the Studio for Urban Projects with panelists Katharyn Boyer, Professor of Biology at the Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies, San Francisco State University; Maria Brown, Superintendent of the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary; Robin Grossinger, Senior Scientist and Program Director of the San Francisco Estuary Institute’s Resilient Landscapes Program; and Terry Sawyer from Hog Island Oyster Co.

Leslie’s message – which blends nature, spirituality, and activism – is at home in Bolinas. The daughter of a labor leader and a feminist, music, protest, and healing have always been inseparable to her. She grew up understanding the power of having a voice, and what a voice! It is one of the most powerful, moving voices you will ever hear. Annie Lennox wrote, “Leslie’s voice stands alone.”
She had an illustrious career before taking time off to raise her son and care for her ailing mother. She has appeared widely in magazines and on television and radio including MTV, VH1, Dateline NBC, Good Morning America, CNN headline News, and CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, to name a few. She has sung for Nelson Mandela, and she was invited to perform at the Lilith Fair where she shared the stage with Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, the Indigo Girls, and the Dixie Chicks.
Now she is back with a new album, Balm for Gilead. Her music has been described as Power Folk, and this new album has gotten great reviews.

The Durst Case Scenario is a hilarious exploration of how America is changing during the Time of Trump. DCS is a rollicking feast of outraged and outrageous satire as up-to-date as the latest 4 am Oval Office tweet. In this lightning- paced 85-minute comedic tour-de-force, Durst describes this strange new world where every day without a mushroom cloud is a victory. He details the anxiety of never knowing when the president will strike the flint that shoots a spark to light the fuse to Armageddon. Prepare to meet the funny side of defiance.
Will Durst is acknowledged by peers and press alike as one of the premier political satirists in the country. He’s patched together a quilt of a humorous career, weaving together columns, books, radio and television commentaries, acting, voice-overs and stand-up into a riotous patchwork of funny comedy humor. The Oregonian called him, “The thinking man’s comedian.” Author of 4 books, Durst has told jokes in 16 countries, racked up 800+ television appearances, released 5 CDs and despite blistering reproach, continues to squeeze ketchup on his bratwurst.
